I've loaded XP numerous times and never really noticed an option for installing recovery console. Also, never needed to use it. I am interested though. How do I install it? |

i stumbled across this forum because i have the same "NTLDR is missing" problem. only the windows XP stuff doesn't apply to me, since I have 98. i found an article that talks about installing windows 2000 over a system with 9x or ME and how this can cause your boot process to fail. i'm going to try this solution since I tried to install 2000 last night over 98 and the installation failed! if anyone has any more information then let me know! http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q255220 |

I've just had the same ntldr problem, and i may have found a reason for why it occurs. i've noticed that when i have on other appliances which are plugged in on the same circuit as my computer, then my bios gets reconfigured back to defaults. i dont know if this also interferes with the hard disk, but it might, because i also did nothing that could have caused the error. |

This is freaky as I was going to post a similar problem. A friends comp had trouble with the ntldr. The interesting thing is that after 3 reinstalls the ntldr file continues to go missing, the last time was after a few hours. Nothing else was put on the system and I have checked ram and used a maxtor utility to check the hd to no avail, also reset the bios. Dont know what else to check the system had been running well until recently with these errors.

since this reocours after being fixed I suspect a worm. try uninstalling your virus software and reinstalling it with the latest updates. then run it. Most worms now disable your a/v on infestation is the reason to uninstall and reinstall. I ran my a/v and had 0 then uninstalled and reinstalled with latest up dates and found 7 virus. Hope you have better luck. also unplug from the internet while the scan is going on some viri go to a site to reload themselves.

Often a user will see the message "NTLDR is Missing" after attempting to install Windows 2000 or Windows XP, or upgrade a Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The message appears after the first reboot. This occurs only if Windows 95 or 98 has been installed on a drive with the FAT32 file system.
To correct the problem, the user must boot the computer with a Windows 95 or 98 Startup diskette or another bootable diskette with sys.com on it. Then, at the "A:\>" prompt, type "sys c:" and press "enter." A "System Transferred" prompt should appear and then the user must reboot the computer without the diskette.
I have used this in the past on XP Pro. Hope this helps. |

i have the same problem on my machine. It seems everytime i leave my machine and go away for awhile, it does that crap (NTLDR IS MISSING) and i have to restart, and after that, when i get into windows Xp and shut it down, the dagum thing wont shut down completely, it just simply restarts, i have messed up another hard disk, and it done the same exact thing, this doesnt happen on any other machine exept my 800 mghz HP POS! |

On my Sony I just had the same problem, due to a downloaded .exe file. I have comps here with W2K and 98... I have the official Sony recovery CD, but that only lets me completely reinstall everything, which means delete a lot of my unsaved data... Is there any simple, laymans way of solving this, at least so that I can safely get the data off through my network and then restore the lot??
I am a bit in a state of panic, since my wife will kill me if she finds that all our baby's pics are gone.., and there were a lot....
Should I buy an extra XP software, since that did not come seperately with the Sony? Is any of the W2K system software of use..?? |

Hi,. Everyone keeps pointing a finger at a hard drive issue.
Get this,... I am fixing a computer for work, I begin to upgrade 98 to 2000... System reboots, and I now have the Missing NTLDR message. The crappy system is a compaq presario 5050. With a
Celeron prcessor & Phoenix bios ( There is a reason for me explaining the system, just bare with me. ) I take the hard drive out of the compaq, and hook it up to my system ( an AMD athelon based PC I built. )
The hard drive once hooked up to the superior Athelon System, boots wonderfully... No more NTLDR error.. Now this problem puzzles me.... I have no choice but to think there is a hardware isssue either the lame Phoenix Bios, or the version of Celeron processor.. would be my guess. Anyone Have any feedback, email me at veighx@yahoo.com
Thanks,.. Veighlyn |
