| sys.not recognize files on cd-rw
need advice on why it may be that I cannot see the files that are on a cdrw that i copied files to earlier. The drives work fine for cd rom (running a video etc),but when I try to see my files on any cd , they just are no visible. Instead this UDFREADER thing popped up asking me to install it so as to read but thats all I see now on the drive-UDFREADER.As if the files disappeared. This is true for any cd i put in including all cds i previously saved stuff on. Essentially I cannot see my files on cds anymore. What can I do?
Oh. im running windows me

Did you burn the files to disk or use the disk as like a floppy? If the latter then you need to install the program UDFREADER that came with your cdrw to read the files off the disk. But if you had burned them, you should not have that problem reading all your files. I am to understand that you mean that you can't read files that you saved to disk but don't have that problem with pre-written software. |

Okay I just read your other thread and it appears that you have just recently formated your hard drive, This is why you can't read any of the files you see on your disk. you need to re-install the drivers/software that came with the CDRW when you purchased it. So just do like you did when you first got your CDRW and pop in that disk that came with it and install that software with it.
I am gambling that you had saved your files to the disk like a floppy and didn't burn them thus why you can't read them without the reader. |

To be able to read the files from disk on any computer you need to actually Burn the disk. Nero is a good program to use to burn files to disk.
Just install the software from that disk you got with the CDRW and you will be able to read your files again.
Just a side note: you won't be able to read those files on another computer unless that computer already has that exact reader installed on the hard drive.
Edit: BTW Welcome to TechIMO!!! |

Before formating I would back up all the files you want by burning them to disk, Nero should have some trial software you can use to burn your files to disk, this way you won't need the reader.
I forget why, but why are you planning to reformat? |
