Re: umv. Will boot if not in drawer. Cable good, drawers good. Out of drawer boots fine. Tried an MSI K7N420 mobo and get a drive error, but, again it boots fine if not in a drawer. Even tried 98se and after the Win 98 screen I get a 'not ready reading drive c: etc'. But it boots fine when not in a drawer. I've used multiple drawers on my previous machines with no problems.
Tried a promise controller card and lo and behold it boots in a drawer! Why? Maybe the on board ide controllers have something to do with it? Different manufacturers and diff chipsets but same result. Why would a drawer make a difference? Good connection, correct cable etc. Haven't seen or heard anything about this until I ran into it.
I want to run a mirror raid eventually but with an extra drive so I always have one out of the machine that I can use to rebuild the array in case both drives get screwed up. Also want to be able to pull both out so I can boot to a Linux or 98se drive.
