FastTrak66 and PAM

Hi,

Has anyone experienced problems (ie crashes) with a FastTrak controller and the Promise Array Management (PAM)?

A couple couple of weeks ago, I installed a second RAID1 array in my Win2000 sp3 server.
I now have a total of 2 RAID1 arrays (2x40GB and 2x80GB).
I was using the Promised Utility to synchronise the disks but I discovered that only array1 was synchronised.
I emailed Promise Tech Support and they suggested I should install PAM instead... and that's what I did.

That's when my problems started.
The server would freeze totally (and randomly)... not just a blue screen... a total lock up: mouse/keyboard/display locked. The only way to recover the server was to reset it.
On 2 occasions the PC blue screen'd on fasttrak.sys
I updated the drivers but the PC was still crashing. So I decided to un-install PAM... since then no problem, not a single crash...

I have checked with Promise web site but I did not find anything about these sort of problems.
And yes, I am running the latest BIOS and drivers...

Thanks

Stan

Interesting Stan. I take it that this is an addon card and not an onboard raid?

I'm currently using pam on my gigabyte amd dually with onboard raid and havent had any issues with it.

Yep, it's a separate PCI card. It's a rather old one as well...
If I remember correctly, it was one of those you had to update the BIOS for Win 2000 support.

I am still waiting for a reply from Promise Tech Support... if they care to reply...
