| My MSI K7T Turbo won't show any video!
Hey guys!
I am running a Duron 950 on the board right now.
I had been using this mobo with same components just yesterday.
But I switched cases with a different computer, changed heatsinks and vid card, and now it won't show any video or POST.
1. I've reseated the CPU, RAM, and vid card several times.
2. The jumper is set to 100MHz.
3. I've cleared CMOS.
4. The only thing I have hooked up right now is: vid card, cpu, ram, psu, and keyboard.
5. Now, I have the computer all setting out on a table and I plugged the same things up and still no video or POST.
The video card that I switched is the same kind(TNT2) but a different brand.
All known good parts as of yesterday. And no, the CPU die is not cracked.
Any ideas?!?
I'm going to switch out the vid card for the one that used to be in there and see if that fixs anything.
But other than that, I don't know what the problem is.
Any help is appreciated!
specs:
AMD Duron 950 MHz \
MSI K7T Turbo VER. 3 \
TNT2 M64 Video Card 32MB } Connected right now
Generic 250 Watt PSU /
Kingston ValueRAM PC-133 256MB /
Toshiba 8x DVD-ROM
Sony 12x10x32x CD-RW
Seagate 40GB HDD
Realtek 10/100 NIC
CNR 56k Modem
Thanks!! |

Make certain the MOBO isn't touching the case causing a short?
make sure the plug from the PSU to the MOBO is plugged in good
The switch in the bcak of the PSU is on/voltage selection correct?(The little things always getcha)
The power switch from the case is hooked to the proper pins (happened to me )
Get anything at all, beeps, spinning fans, anything?

Thanks for the reply!
The MOBO is sitting out on a non-conductive table, so it's not shorting out.
The power plug is plugged in tight.
The switch is set to 115VAC
The power switch is hooked up correctly.
The fans are all spinning up, no beeps, and no video.
The CPU heatsink gets a little warm so I know it's getting juice.
And the vid card gets warm after a couple min. being turned on, so it's getting juice, too.
Won't be able to test the vid card till later.
Thanks Again! |

Is there an onboard video card on this mobo? I couldn't find the exact model on the MSI website, but I didn't look that hard, either. If there is an onboard video, make sure that it is disabled. Seeing as you can't get into BIOS, there would probably be a jumper next to the I/O plug in.

There's no onboard video just onboard sound.
I've looked on the mobo and the only jumpers I could see is one for the FSB speed (100/133) and one for the Clear CMOS function.
I noticed about 6-8 months ago that the fan headers on the board are not powering the fans, so I just used those 4-pin molex to 3-pin fan converters. Would that have something to do with my problem?
I tried a known good video card and still no video.
I'm gonna replace the switch psu and see if that cures it.
But, the funny thing is that all these parts worked together just last night, all I did was take them out of the case and switch cases?!?
Oh well, here goes nothing...

What do you mean "Diagnostic LED freezing."
Has anybody else had any experience with this mobo?
Any help or ideas are appreciated! |

Greetings. I have a MSI K7T Turbo in one of my boxes also. I think you are on the right troubleshooting path, so I dont have any other suggestions aside from trying a different VidCard... However, I did want to ask whether your Mobo came with (should have) the D-Bracket that not only has USB slots, but also has 4 lights for diagnostic purposes. I think that is what the person above was referring to. If you have that, attach it as instructed to the mobo and observe the bootup light sequence. It may indicate what issues there are- your mobo book or online pdf manual will state what each light series means.
GoodLuck,

Aw, man...
I don't have anything like that.
This computer is from Systemax, and they didn't include the "D bracket" or anything like it. Crummy OEMs!!
I've been thinking about buying one of those postmortem boards from techimo, maybe now is a good time to get one
Is there any way I could just hook up some LEDs to some pins and reach the same effect?? I've done quite a bit of electronics work, so if I knew which pins to connect them to, I might have a chance at figuring out what exactly is wrong.
BTW, I've tried a known good vid card and power supply, still nothing...
Keep up the faith!!

I found the manual for my board on the net, and it said there were supposed to be four LEDs on the mobo in between the game/sound ports, and the printer/serial ports. There are places with solder but no LEDs. So, I'm gonna try to use some bi-polar LEDs I have and hook 'em up. Keep your fingers crossed!
Hope to find out soon what the problem is...
