What do you think? IT's a new build, a new hard drive and WinXP pro. It runs for a while and then the OS locks up...
ONly software loaded is UD and Ecc2. It locks up with only UD running. |

ECS K7S5A ver3.1 and an XP2000 chip with 512 RAM (crucial)
I'm sure it's not UD. I have it on 10 other boxes no problem. |

Is it after the same amount of time, or just when you're doing something inparticular?
You have all the chipset drivers and 'what-not' installed?
How 'bout XP's SP1? |

Try a different stick of ram if you have one.
Oh and if the bios will allow you to, check the temp and see if it's heating up to high.

silencer457, I was having problems with this build!
and yes the ps was a problem too I thought.. But then I changed out the RAM and that seemed to solve it.
But I am sure you need a good clean source of both power and RAM for these boards.
Here's the weird thing it did tho... It would boot sometimes I'd get a cmos beep.. but then not. I thought it was the ps because I put a lighted nic in it and you could power it up and watch the light on the card just go on and off on and off really fast.
But changing the ps didn't help so then I pulled one stick of Crucial and replaced it with another. and got consistent boots.
ER, I loaded up the mobo drivers too. After I installed XP.
When I first installed the os it seemed to run like a slug. I mean it should have been zipping! Then the lock ups started. I forced a reboot (unplugged it! ) and then I couldn't click on any of the icons. So I rebooted.. had icon function back but it still froze after a few hours
I don't think sp1 would help. I have all my xp boxes running without it. |

Is this a brand new hard drive or did it have another OS on it at one time?
Have you tried Clearing the CMOS. |
