| Modem problems...
Hello everyone, its been a while since I've been around, but please don't hold that against me.
My computer:
AMD 2000XP+
MSI KT3 Ultra2
Gainward GeForce 4 4200Ti
Creative Modem Blaster V.92 PCI
Phillips 4.1 sound card PCI
Lite-On 16x DVD & 48x12x48 CDR
40 GB Maxtor
Windows Me
So here is my problem, my modem is configured properly, diagnostics show everything is fine, but when I try to dial out, I can hear the phone line as it is picked up, but there is no dial tone and I get an error message saying that the computer cannot communicate with the modem.
Here's the weird part, my modem works when I am running musicmatch Jukebox it works and dials out! What's up with that? Any ideas on a more permanent solution, please let me know!
I have switched pci slots, re-installed drivers, and uninstalled and reinstalled every thing associated with the modem and internet.
Thank you all for your help!

Sorry....Windows Me. I think I am one of 6.2 people that don't have problems with it!

Do you have any sort of 'Dialing Properties' set, like "Call Waiting" or anything like that? |

No, I don't have call waiting set on my dial up. Basically, if I don't hear a dial tone in about 2 seconds after I hit connect, I cancel and try again. I'm still stumped...but at least I enjoy listening to music while surfing! |

check your internet connections and make sure it is set to dial your default connection. (I've had mine switch to never dial a conection before.)

Well, I think I'm gonna give this one up to the little hamsters inside this metal box next to my desk that I plug in all the cords to. Everything is normal and the only thing that makes the connection work is when the mp3 player is running. Just one of those weird things that I don't have the inquisitive nature to figure out. So be it. Thank you all for your quick replies. I think in the next few months I'll be getting an upgrade to WinXP. Have a great day everyone!

I only tried one Creative Modem Blaster and had the very same problem. It never got a dialtone. My father-in-law wanted me to install a modem so I picked one of these up and never got it to work. I took it back and exchanged it for a US Robotics and it worked right out of the box. I now use Diamond or US Robotics modems.
Mike OBTW: my father-in-law was useing Win98se.

One machine I saw was picky about which hole you stuck the phone line into.
Others sometimes grow green corrosion, try the other hole..
In Control Panel, under Connections and Settings, make sure log onto network is unchecked as well as NetBui and the other one right above TCP/IP |

You may remove and reinstall DUN also, just to be sure it's not corrupted. |
