Hmm... it seems what we have here is a failure to communicate. If you followed the instructions on installing your printer with the LPT1/USB port, try this simple experiment: 1) Re-install your EPSON printer and USB drivers. 2) Connect your USB printer cable to your computer's USB port and on the other end, connect it to your printer. 3) Turn your printer on. 4) Turn off your computer and restart it. Do not turn off your printer. Now did you notice any activity inside your Epson printer when your computer rebooted ( The printer makes certain sounds and you see the ink cartridges move slowly back and forth? ) If your printer just sits there silently and motionless when you restarted your computer, then you've got a communication problem between your computer and your printer.
The next step is to find out who's the culprit. You say the printer's brand new and you've installed the USB drivers and replaced the connecting cables -- that leaves us with your computer. Open your computer's BIOS and see if your USB connection in your computer is enabled; Enable it if it isn't and try again. If it still doens't work, you may need to open or have someone (your boyfriend, your husband, the repairman) open your computer case and look inside for your USB connection. Disconnect it first then reconnect it and try again. If it still doesn't work get a new and working USB connection for your computer and try again. Hopefully it will work this time and you won't have to go to the next step: Going to your repairman to check your PC and/or bringing your printer back to the shop and replacing it with a new one. Hope this helps
