| DVD ROM Drive can't read discs.
P4 2533MHz
Abit SA7-533 motherboard
BenQ 40x12x48 CDRW (secondary master)
Artec 16x40 DVDROM (secondary slave)
Windows XP Pro
All drives are recognised by BIOS and Windows but for some reason discs cannot be read or accessed by the DVD ROM drive.
Have already tried another (working) drive and hit same problem, also swapped IDE cable to no avail. Whenever you try to access discs it says "please insert a disc into drive E"
Any thoughts? |

G:
Just for kicks, did you try switching the master and slave settings
on the drives? Just an idea if you haven't tried it yet.
I've installed an Artec DVD on a Dell system, but Dell uses the
'Cable Select" function. Good luck.

Is the disc spinning up? Also you might try usuing a boot disc to go into dos and reading a disc their. That could tell you if it's software or hardware. |

Bill - the pc is one I built for a client so it isn't available for me to try a lot of things, but I've asked him to try your suggestion - I'll get back today.
Bob - The drive is spinning up, but I'll get him to try the DOS option. |

MrLuigi - I thought ASPI was only for SCSI devices. |

Sorted!
Turns out it was the IDE cable after all. He's bought a new one and it works fine. |
