| Can't get rid of an unwanted ie homepage
Greetings,
I have tried everything I know. I have a client that has a pentium I 266 machine running windows 98 SE. He uses iexplorer 6.0 for the internet browser, and a dialup connection to the internet.
He has this porn URL for a home page that won't go away. I installed Norton AV 2001, updated the virus definitions & scaned the system. No viruses found. I completely uninstalled internet explorer, installed ie 5.0, then upgraded to 6.0 via windowsupdate.microsoft.com. I set the home page to www.yahoo.com, I ran a program called tracks eraser, which securly removes all temp internet files, cookies, registry paths, history info, etc. Then ran Registry First Aid to ensure the registry is cleaned up. I searched the registry for the unwanted URL, and it's gone. I Restart the system, and before I connect to the internet, the home page is back!
Where is this coming from? How do I get rid of it?
Help!!!!

You need to run AdAware, available from www.lavasoft.com. It will find slimeware like this and remove it. |

Heh, the beauty of pr0n pages
SpyBot might be able to help you, seems adaware isn't updating it's sig file anymore. I don't remember the link.
Usually homepage changers are reported as viruses, don't know why nav doesn't see it.
You might want to check out the page it switches to homepage from f-secures virus listings etc. You might then be able to identify the virus and then effectively remove it.
