hello all i am haveing a terrable problem and hope someone can help me?i am running an abit be6 II version 2 mother board with a slot 1 800 mhz 133 fsb cpu,and 256 megs of pc 133 ram.i am currantly running windows xp pro,but the same problem occured under wimdows 98-se.the board is set up for raid but im not useing it.here goes the problem, boot the system up and every thing works fine, boots fine, posts fine, and will run fine for days.untill you select shutdown from the start menu?and try to turn the system back on it will only boot to the cpu fan?power light comes on,power supply works, and cpu fan spins?and thats as far as it will go.and at this point the only way to power system down is to throw the power supply switch,or pull the plug.and then if you leave it set for about a half hour or forty five minutes?all is well again untill you select shutdown, and its the same thing all over again.now you can hit reset and the system will reboot fine over and over?but you cant shut it down.now i was informed about bulging and leaking capacitors on these boards and checked them.one or two dose have a slight crown but no seapage.also i was told the symptoms of this problem is the board keeps resetting?and i dont have this problem.ive tried removing everything but my video card?and same problem.tried changing ram?no luck.i think it is a pretti simple problem?but i just cant hit it and at wits end.someone please help me.uggghhhhhhh.....p.s my power supply is new and supposed to be 350 watts @ least thats what the label says. |

A raised crown on the capacitors is an indication of damage/failure. Abit has a history of capacitor failures.
That will be the most probable cause. You can try a different power supply just to be sure...

ok thats a start.but would the system run fine otherwise?what im trying to say is do you think a slight crown could cause this problem only when you shutdown and attempt to restart?also would a power supply do this?only restarting?or would it not mess up while the system is running?thanks alot for your help. |

A power supply could cause this.
Capacitors could also cause a hot restart problem.
Its easier to test with another power supply first, than to pull the board and change capacitors. (Which is probably what you will end up doing)... |

Depends where you are located. Probably cheaper to replace the mainboard... |
