| Bios upgRADE FOR M/B m930LR
Looking for a BIOS upgrade for the following:
Motherboard-M930LR (according to EZBPC.com)
BIOS string- 62-0729-001131-00101111-040201-sis64x-m930lr
Bootup says it's an AMIBIOS date 07/29/2002
Thought the motherboard was manufactured by ECS, but may be a PCChips.
Running Win2k
384M Ram
Tech Support from EZBPC.com lists the BIOS as M930-11.exe
Cannot obtain it.
System IS running fine, but SiSoft Sandra says that I should update the BIOS as there are host controllers disabled and that SMBIOS/DMI information may be inaccurate |

Sounds like a PC-Chips board to me.
And before you go and try a "new" BIOS, try this:
Look at the SiSoft listing of items that are disabled and compare that list to your mobo features. My guess is that you will notice some kind of pattern. Next look at your mobo (physically). There should be some jumpers on the board that are not on any of the diagrams in the manual. I have found that these (on PC-Chips boards) are on/off switches for the various onboard features.
PS: The 'LR' at the end of the mobo number for a PC-Chips board would normally mean Lan and Sound. I think... |

The 3rd group of numbers in your bios string identify your motherboard manufacturer, which is Elitegroup Computers (ECS).
ECS, Amptron and PCchips are all the same company, hardware-wise. Although ECS tends to use a different series of model numbers for the same motherboards.
The latest bios that Amptron lists is April2002, which predates the one you have. PCchips does not list that board at all.
A search of ECS's website for m930lr came up nil. Could you check the bottom PCI slot for a sticker on the side that faces the bottom of the case and look for a model number? I have a small mirror that I lay on the bottom of the case to do this, works like a charm
EDIT - Also need the revision number (ver 1.0, ver 5.1a, etc).

You have the most recent bios for the PCChips M930L (there is no R according to thier site tho most resellers list it. I'll keep looking into it.) Quote:
The most current mainboard code system is as the followings:
1. CPU—M7: socket 370, M8: AMD CPU, M9: Pentium 4
2. Chipset (second digit)— 0: Intel, 1: ALi, 2 & 5: VIA, 3 & 6: SiS (only P4 models follow the rule);
3. Form Factor (third digit)—Even: ATX, Odd: microATX (only new models follow the rule)
4. Onboard CPU—C: CPU onboard
5. Extension model—A: advance, B: to be define, E: economic
6. Functions (in alphabetical order)—F: Firewire (1394a), L: LAN, R: RAID, U: USB2.0

Hey thanks for the idea (mirror) Kuasi!
Sorry for jumping the gun on the PC-Chips thing. I have had one to many problems with them. Not that they don't work, but that so much is not documented, or available (drivers anyone???).
BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.pcchips.com.tw/product/M930ALUv5x.html
Take a look here and let us know. |
