does this sound like a psu problem?
Shuttle AI61 mb, 256mb sdram - I've been going round and round with this thing - it's a system for my father - to replace his celeron 366.
tbird 850 (slot A)
128mb kingston value ram
USR 56K modem
sb live value
V2-3000 pci
got a new case (generic) - this mb was a pull from my wife's system (worked fine) - put together with parts from an old gateway - cdrom wouldn't work - fine, got a new lite-on cdrw - and put it in - worked like a charm with old gateway 4gb hdd. put in another hdd (13.6gb maxtor) - and suddenly the floppy doesn't get any power - switch back to the 4gb - and all is fine.
With the 4gb drive in - it runs - but gets occasional lockups, bsods - etc.. just from easy web browsing.. it seems have problems after any activity of any duration - like running defrag etc. (W98). I tried reinstalling W98 - but didn't solve anything.
I tried removing the pci cards - which are not a lot, sound card and a modem - but didn't help.
At one point I tried reformatting the 13gb drive to put W2K on it - but it gets a bsod about 20% thru the ntfs format process.
the psu is a generic 300w. I'm wondering if a new amd approved psu will solve the problems - I'd like your thoughts.
Thanks, KenCracking Cancer for Team Techimo

IMO even a generic 300 watt PS is going to be fine in most cases.
Do you happen to have PS another that you can swap it with to check?
That would be the first thing to look at.
Also double check your connections and jumper settings on the drive.
