REdhat 8 and crystal 4236b sound

REdhat 8 and crystal 4236b sound

Ok guys need a little help,

Redhat installed ok apart from sound which refuses to work,

Specs as follows

Dell GX1
P2 450
128MB
ATI 8mb onboard
Crystal CS4236b soundcard
10Gb HD

looking at hardware setup and under sound cards it has CS4236b:game
CS4236b:MPU
CS4236b:wss/SB

under unknown is
CS4236b:CTRL

when I try run volume control it says unable to open device

HEEEELP, am about to reformat and try Mandrake but before I do that thought I would see if any suggestions....if giving advice I need instructions as im a linux newb.....tried ALSA site but no joy.

Are you sure that's the right card?

I can't seem to find it listed on the manufacturer's website.

EDIT: You might try one of these drivers.

They're not for that exact number, but Cirrus Logic (the CS in that part number) doesn't seem to list that particular card.

*LOL* been that busy not even looked at the problem since 20th. It is definatly a CS4236b, reading redhat site it should be supported by install CD, had look at anothe lRH8 system on same breed of PC and it has exact same prob!!!!!! been looking everywhere with no joy!!!!

BTW its a Crystal card not cirrus logic one (I know they are sorta same co)
