Harddrive problems

This one has got me stumped.

I've been fighting this drive for a while now. It'a a Maxtor 6L060L3 60GB. Everything worked fine until my mobo went.

I kept getting write delayed failure errors on it. I managed to fix that problem but now it only shows as 32GB. I tried fdisk/mbr, fdisking only shows 32GB. I've tried deleting the primary partition several times. Format only shows the same size.

Powermax full test says everything is ok. Factory recertified.

Even PM8 only shows 32GB.

I'm now trying a low level format.

You said everything worked fine until your motherboard went....

Does that mean you got another motherboard, or did you install the drive in another system on a different board?

If you got another motherboard, or put it into another system on a different board, its possible that the bios needs to be updated to recognize drives larger than 32gb.

If you have not already done that, its what I would suggest (updating the bios). Based on what you have said, and the diags you have run on the drive itself, it sounds like its working fine.

I found the problem/s

One was I was using an old computer to fdisk the drive. I'm guessing like target said was the bios didn't support it.

Two was the stencil on the drive was wrong. I went to maxtors site and found the real settings. Appearently there is a jumper setting that limits it to 32gb. Although I didn't have it at that exact setting it was close enough I guess.

Strange that they would do that and have the stencil wrong. Here is the settings from maxtors site.

I had only j42 connected according to the drive stencil.
