| Any way to go to PCI 2.2?
Hey guys, need some help.
I have a very old ECS (Elite Group) P5VX-B 1.2.
I want to install a D-Link DWL 520 Wireless PCI Card.
My mobo supports PCI 2.1, but not PCI 2.2, which is exactly what this card needs.
Are there any drivers or BIOS updates that can make my computer PCI 2.2 compliant?
Thanks, and if not, what would be the cheapest way to get my wireless network on my computer?

Thanks for the reply. I am starting to figure that out. I think I may just go with a USB connection, but getting my USB card installed has been a pain. Everytime I try to install the driver USB Host, it freezes and stops dead. Not sure what to do. Ill probably end up buying a different USB to PCI (or ISA) card from Best Buy or something.

what os are you running? system specs?
everylittle thing helps when troubleshootin...
plus... make sure you have all current updates for your versions of windows...
and when you install a device try to make sure antivirus software is disabled and extra TSRS(ect programs) are shut down...

Alright, well now Im on to a different subject!
I just got my Windows 98 SE installed on my computer. Here are its specs-
ECS P5VX-B 1.2 Motherboard
200mhz Pentium 1
ESupport Phoenix BIOS
64 MB EDO Kingston ValuRam (maybe 128 soon)
6.5 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
2 CD Drives
Creative Labs Banshee 16MB Video Card
Sound Blaster Live Sound Card
As of now, that is all that is loaded on it. I bought this USB card on Ebay and it wasnt any brand name. I am not sure if I should give up on that card and just buy a better one, or keep working at it.
What happens with the USB card is Windows recognizes it and begins installing drivers, once it goes through 2 times noticing new hardware, it notices USB Hub Controller and freezes completely. Mouse doesnt move, keyboard does nothing. Ive removed the card until I figure out what to do.

lets see..you have the intel vx chipset on that mainboard...
not too much to download for that chipset... pretty solid actually.
what you need to do is move the sound card to the last available pci slot on the mainboard... and the video card of yours to the 1st available one.
the usb card can really be anywhere in between... check to see if you can find the url fo the manufacturer online and download the newest drivers straight from them.
if that still dont work...
keep them for later....
reboot into safe mode...
clean anything to do with the card out in the device manager...
then reboot...
try again.... if no go.... heck go out and get a buslink card.... ive had good luck with them so far myself... i used to run a lot of sig components back in the 4x86 days... im not too sure how they are...
hope this helps bud

dang... one more thing... i almost forgot..... after you rearrange the pci cards go into the bios and there will be a option to reset pci configuration data... do that... then reboot... it will reassign irqs to the devices for you...
cause the way youre putting it when windows installs the device, grabs the irq for it the system just stalls RIGHT then and there....

PCI 2.1 to 2.2 has no relevant changes in regard to card compatibility. If you do have problems, try barking up a different tree ... this one is not the right one. |

What? That was directed to the poster of the question, who is on the wrong track to solving his problem. |
