Are there any good system monitors to record internal system activity

Are there any good system monitors that log what a system is doing? I am having random problems (that I think are being caused by my Gainward cards (1 is a dualhead AGP and the other is a single head PCI). The system freezes up sometimes and I have to safe boot, then shutdown, then regular boot to have it come up ok. I would like to be logging what is happening so I can possibly see the culprit. I am not sure if DrWatson will do it but if it will, can I get it to run all the time. I dont care if it slows the system down (for right not)... I just want to see what is happening. Thanks in advance.

if you're in windows xp or windows 2000 you can always run event viewer (start>run>eventvwr.msc)
