| Linux CDBurning problems
Mandrake 9.0
I am trying to burn a cd of songs on my hard drive. I have converted them to .wav files and all lower case names no gaps, etc.
I am trying to use EROASTER. I select audio cd, drop all of the files in, select all, click on Burn CD, select Burn from the options window that appears then nothing happens.
I tried to use x-cd-roast but can not figure out how to add the files and burn them and have looked into cdrdoa but that one is way too confusing to me at this time, and I can not gt the K3B thing for it to install, So I am pretty much set on using eroaster if I can get it to work.
Any ideas why it will not work? Anywhere I should be looking to try to find a problem. I get no error messages, it just does not do anything after I hit burn. |

Ok, everything is setup correctly. The cd burner is detected correctly in its correct spot and the settings in eroaster show the correct spot.(0,3,0)
Also, I have tried to install the k3b program but get the error message about being dependent on cdrdao...which I installed(correctly I think) last night. There is the cdrdao bin file in /usr/local/bin so I am unsure why it isn't detecting it during install.
So, i still have the same problem. Hit burn, then nothing. |

Ok, you hit burncd in eroaster and it does nothing? Go to the audio tab, enter nothing, hit burn, does it complain that nothing was added?
Run cdrecord -scanbus, does it list your burner on 0,3,0?
You loaded the ide-scsi and sg modules already?
If all of the above is true, and it is detecting the CDrw as either scd0 or scd1, id suggesting nuking eroaster and reinstalling it. As lame of an answer as that sounds, it may be worth a shot. |

It says I must select some audio files first.
Yes, it shows up as 0,3,0.
I loaded the ide-scsi and sg modules.
It is detected as scd0
So, try reinstalling it?
I will do that now actually. I'll report back |

You have to log in as root..... run "userdrake" I think and give your "nonroot" user the permission settings to run the device. |

You should be able to run k3b as nonroot-it sets it up for you when you run k3bSetup the 1st time.I can burn CDs as a regular user, now.

I reckon you need to give the normal user permissions to access the device.
do:
chmod a+rw /dev/cdwriter
where cdwriter is the name of the SCSI device for your cdrom. (maybe scd0?)
I might be wrong though.
wait!
I think (as has already been said) that Mandrake has a cdrecord group or something. Add your user into that by editing /etc/group or using whatever software you use.
BTW you need to be root for that.
