Help, it's happened again!

WinXP using SB-LIVE! 5.1

On my old pc my drivers gave out on my sound card, then i reinstalled them, and i only had 4 speakers, but i own the creative inspire 5.1 speakers

So i built a new PC and i'm having the same problems!

So just a few minutes ago, i was playing counter strike and noticed my sound was funky, only two speakers worked so i closed down and went to load up AudioHQ to turn it to 5.1, and it said "Can't initalize audio driver. Reinstall audio driver"

So fired up my drvers, uninstalled and restarted. Loaded up had no sound (so far so good) and installed the drivers, restarted and i only have 4 speakers working and i can't change it to 5.1...

I have it set in Windows control panel to 5.1 and still no luck...

What is happening?! Is it my sound card? Should i call up creative and try and get it replaced, My last OS was Win2k and i have WinXP now... This is a BRAND new system, but using the same sound card...

This is driving me mad!

Yeah, everything is pluged in real tight...

Thing is, it's not the speakers cause if i plug in the front speakers into the back plugs they work fine..

Something is wrong cause this is the same thing that was on my old machine.. It was 2k this is Xp...

But this is the first time the front speakers have lower sound

EDIT: reason why the front speakers didn't work is cause i had the balance to the left.. Hehe...

But this issue with only 3 speakers still pisses me off

The driver for your sound card is extremely picky about the way it gets installed. I had similar issues with an audigy.

I was ready to rma the thing, so I give creative a call and they walked me through a completly moronic way of installing the driver\software. Been working fine since.

there are a number of known issues with creative soundcards & xp.

my advice to you if the problem occurs again is to ditch the card and get something else like the turtle beach santa cruz. this card is excellent and works flawlessly with xp, w2k, etc.
