Connecting problems

As of late, I have been unable to successfully connect to the internet using either of my ISPs (DSL and Dial-Up). I'm sure its not a modem/cable problem because everything works fine with the same equipment on my other computer, and I'm sure its not a network card problem, because I even switched comp network cards to test them out. Is there a virus or something that could be disabling me access to the internet....Also it is important to note that sometimes I do connect, but its a 'false' connection, where nothing (Iexplore, aim, kazaa, etc.) works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be possibally a firewall?? i dont think a virus would disable internet access...but then again i could be wrong. Anything new you added to your computer when this started happening?

The exact same thing happened to me once with WinME. False connections and all, just like u said! I removed everything that used connection(all programs and firewalls) reinstalled dialup adapter, cleaned registry, scanned for virus and nothing! I had to format my HD. Hope u have better luck!
