    Linux Evolution mail client problem

    Mandrake 9.0
I use the Ximian Evolution mail program as my mail client. Occasionally, it will crash when I close it and it will not close out all of the way and it just hangs. I can then not reopen it. The little "Evolution is now closing" screen pops up and it just sits there. I have waited for hours and it just sits there so I will use XKill to close it and then I can not reopen the program. Any ideas as to why it does this?

OK, now, when I exit my user screen and reenter it, the Evolution opening window appears and freezes. I thought everyone said Linux was less buggy then Windows...hmmm.
How do i shut this down, i try to close it and nothing, it just sits there.

Did you download that version...........or was it on the install cds??

almost sounds like a corrupted file. Either on install or on the hard disk.

It is install from the cd. I am looking to see if they have a newer release available for download. I still need to close out the program somehow though.

any one know how I can close out the program? Is there a command line I can enter?
Even after I use XKill, it is still running and not actuallly shut down.

    Open a terminal

    type top

look for evolution and look for it's PID number. Open another term window and type KILL 28956 (substitute your PID number for evolution in stead of 28956 )That should do the trick.

sweet! Thanks Dave! That did it. I have now upgraded to the newest version 1.2 and it seems to work without any problems. If I have any probs. I'll be sure to post here again!

Get the PID with ps -ef | grep -i evolution
    Then: kill -9 PID

BTW: This belongs in Apps & Operating Systems.

my bad, I wasn't sure if it was tech support for software or if it would go in apps.
