| Win ME printer problems
I'm back to the experts with the all the computer knowlege . The problem is with my son's PC. It is a Emachine with a 500Mhz cpu and 128+MB of memory, cd and cdrw drives and a 20 bg hd. The OS is WIN ME and it is blowing off the CANON printer that is attached to it (not litterally). The OS will accept the printer and work for a few days then it will no longer recognize the connection to the printer. We have reinstalled the printer, unplugged the printer and rebooted and then hooked back up and rebooted again (doing the hook ups with PC power off) with no luck. As a last resort we formatted the HD and reloaded Win ME and replaced the printer cable. That lasted about 4 days. It is back to not seeing the printer attached to the PC. Even with the latest drivers it won't work. I even deleted the printer port and let the system add it back in and that didn't help.
Am I looking at replacing the built in printer port with a PCI card? Or is there another alternative to that?
Any kind of a suggestion would be appreciated.

I never received a suggestion on how to fix the printer issuse I was having. That is not normal in this forum.
I was able to get the printer going again by changing the spool setting to send output direct to printer. With that change the printer now functions proper (or will when I get new ink cartridges).

Go to spool settings in the printer properties box and set" spool data format" to RAW and see if cures your problem>

Pickle - I'll have to give that a try.
My fix lasted all of couple of hours until he tried to test the printer with new ink in it. It is back to the same problem.

What do you mean 'attached (not literally)'. How is it then connected to the computer???

"attached" - as in attached with a printer cable. I still have issues with it and after talking to a computer shop it would look like the dirvers are the problem.

Try setting the printer port type to other, like std-bi or ecp.

I'll have to try that after I get home from work tonight. I'll be trying the last two suggestions to see if it will clear up this driver issue.
