Question
shutdown problems in win98

When I shutdown my old computer pentium 233 running win98 the background freezes into 3 or 4 colors then into about 2 colors and I never get the screen "now safe to turn off your computer"
When I then power off and power up the computer it starts up fine. Is their a fix for this? Should I try reinstalling win98?

Microsoft has several articles as well as utilities pertaining to issues with shutting down Windows 98.

Here is a good springboard article for some more info, as well as a link to the most popular fix for Win98, the shutdown supplement installer. They give you good step-by-step troubleshooting instructions.

Hope this helps!

Here is where to start in resolving startup/shutdown problems: Windows Support Center . They have lots of info on the problem and links to info on the MS web site.

Wink

Thanks for the links. It turns out it was a known problem with norton antivirus scanning the floppy on shutdown. Updateing NAV fixed it.
Thanks waynezo
