Computer Crashes when playing media files
Lately, my computer is rebooting after a while of playing a media file, namely, a music file. I just reformatted last week. I have onboard sound on a Soyo KT333 Ultra Platnium. Anyone have an idea to what is going on?
Thanks!

Oh, I forgot to mention that it's a C-Media 8738 chip.

What what file extension, what media player, do normal Windows sound files play alright? Sounds to be a driver issue.

Right now, it seems to be AVI and mp3. It has crashed with Winamp, ATI's player (I have a ATI TV Wonder Card), and MS Media Player. Do you mean the sounds that Windows plays such as when you log in and shut down? Those work, I have no sound enabled at the moment though. I've tried 3 sets of drivers. One from MS update site, one from C-Meida, and one from Soyo's website. I haven't seen a crash using the drivers from Soyo's website yet since I installed it last night.
Thanks!

. . . from MS update site . . .
I did use a driver from there ONCE . . . ONCE. NEVER again!

Hmm, perhaps I should go back to ATI's beta drivers for the TV card then. I got the drivers I'm using for that right now from there.

Update, ok, it looks like that it crashes with all 3 drivers.Originally posted by Chiguy

Perhaps the TV card is causing problems with it? Should I get a new sound card perhaps?

I have a KT333 lite, same audio chip, I think that it sucks for audio. I got me a $20 Sound Blaster and the quality is better, and it don't crash.
