XP Pro file extention

Evening all.
I have what I hope is a simple question with a simple answer. When I visit any web site using IE. and wish to save a picture why does it decide to name the original jpg ie: 1234.jpg, to 'untitled.bmp.
I am sure I have had this problem before but cannot remember if I resolved it.

How are you saving the picture?

If you right-click the picture and choose "Save Picture As ...", what formats does it give you? I think it depends on the original format of the picture.

AFAIK to fix this, empty out your temp files and such. This has helped other people

Thanks for the replys. clearing the temp files cured the problem.
