wireless router stopped working
Some time during the day my Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 wireless router stopped working. I know the Internet still works because I can directly connection the cable from the cable modem to one of the computers. All the lights come on but there is just no connection when the lan cable from the cable modem to the wireless router is plugged in.

On the Status page, does it show you getting an IP from your ISP? If you hit DHCP Release and then DHCP Renew, does it come back with an IP?

What exactly does the Status page say? It should have a LAN and WAN area. I'm mostly interested in the WAN area. I don't need to know your IP address, I just need to know if it lists one. It should have IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS, and DHCP Remaining Time. All should be filled in with numbers.

Have you tried reseting the router? If so, did you make dure to set it up right? Make sure that it's set to get the IP from your ISP the right way.(e.g. PPPoE, Dynamic IP, Static, etc.)
Alot of times it's PPPoE...
Do you have more than one computer that you can try on the network? I figure you probably do 'cause you have a router... If you do, have you tried it from all computers? Can all ping the router? Go to 'Start' and click 'Run' and type in 'command'(without quotes) and then type 'ipconfig /all' and see what that gives you. make sure that your NIC IP is something like 192.168.1.2 and not 169.254.xxx.xxx. In other words make sure that you're getting an IP from your router. You're probably getting it since you can ping your router no problem, but it doesn't hurt to try...
HTH,
David
Also, let us know ALL that your status page says, or you could even take a screenshot and post it here.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention that I've had alot of problems trying to use IE to logon to my router, but Mozilla works great! So, as Pickel said, try using a different browser.Last edited by davidamarkley; March 6th, 2003 at 12:49 AM.

Ok, for some reason you're not getting an IP from your ISP. There could be several reasons.
1. Many ISPs will only issue IPs to a certain MAC address. They usually determine that when they set up your initial connection and if you change the first network device after the modem (new NIC, new router, etc), you could lose your IP.
2. If your ISP only issues static IPs, that will need to be entered into the Setup page.
On the Status page, try clicking Release and then Renew. See if you get issued a new IP. If not, you may want to try calling your ISP's tech support and see if they'll help you out. Some tech support desks won't even talk to you if you have a router.
But you can at least find out how their DHCP works. Do they assign IPs by MAC address? Is it PPoE? Are there any other considerations you should be aware of?
BTW, have you tried hitting the reset button on the router? That will put it back to factory default settings and might clear your problem.
And just FYI, I'm on vacation in Florida now
and may not be able to respond right away. I'll keep checking in, though.

I can still remember days past Watch Monsters University Online And the sad thing is, Don was actually acting out for the right reasons this time. Ted has it in his head the Don is set on besting...
