bootable cd

I would like to know exactly what the need for a bootable cd it..? If, for example, I have a formatted hard drive, ready for OS, I normally boot it up with floppy boot disk and type d: setup to accss the OS cd to load the system. with a bootable cd, could I just do away with the floppys to start right from the git-go? Would it boot up normally after that without the cd, or would it have to be in the cd rom each and every time I wanted to start up the computer? Im confused all to hell. somone please straighten my phat ass out on this one... thanks

There's really no difference, exept it's from the CD.

I really don't know how else to explain it.

You're skipping the step of loading CD-ROM drivers and faster than a floppy.

you wouldnt need it to boot everytime..its just to load/install the OS the first time.

I dont know why but I never liked booting of the cd so I always use the floppy, lol....at least on W98.

hehe, on some comps, like an HP scsi tower I cant remember the name of, if you boot from cd to do a build and then it reboots with cd in, it gives you a vxd error and I have seen people do rebuilds not knowing that it is just because the cd is in there, lol.

And when I do w98 build I always put the cab files on the hard drive so I used to extract them to the hd first while booted from floppy and do the install from the cab files...that way I wouldnt have to worry about forgetting the cab files.

(plus I liked to show off cuz I was the least experienced tech yet the other guys didnt know how to extract files etc)
