Hey people,
Since I have been looking at this forum, There has been a lot of useful info given to me. Now I need some more. I KNOW you all will help me solve this little problem. Being the experts and problem solvers you all are. {ok, enough of the ego enhancements}
MY problem ,in a nut shell, is that Windows XP Pro will not shut down. It gets to the screen saying "Windows is shutting down" and stays there. At this time the mouse freezes, almost like it has shut off.
What I have Tried:
1: Reformating
2: Looked at programs running in background and checked names
on internet and removed items not needed.
3: Have spyware checker run {Spybot Search & destroy}
4: Did a Virus Check. Norton Corp 8.
5: Defragged drive
6: Matched services running with exact unit I have at work
7: Used Alt-F4 to turn everything off before exiting
On a side issue--My 3com card started showing an IP number that was not correct. I have dhcp turned on on my router--a linksys 41. After reinstalling, it finally started working.
My System Specs:
CPU: Athlon XP 2000+
Motherboard: Asus A7V-266
Ram: Kingston 2.5 cl {512 meg x 2}
Case: Antec 1030 w/300 Psu
Hardware installed:
Hauppauge 250 PVR
3-Com 905TX NIC
Sound Blaster Live Xgamer
Promise 100/133 EIDE Controller Card
Adaptec SCSI Card { For Scanner}
Radeon 9700 Pro {128 Meg}
120 Gig WD {8 Meg cache} X 2
40 Gig WD
3.5" Generic Floppy
Liteon 12x DVD Rom
Plextor 40x12x40 CD Burner
Pioneer A04 DVD Burner
My Hard drives are on the Promise card. Both 120's are on the Primary and the 40 is on the secondary. The Pioneer is on the Primary on the motherboard as master and the Plextor and the Liteon is on the secondary on the motherboard respectfully.
Software installed: Windows XP Pro {with latest updates}
Office XP Pro
Spybot Search and Distroy
System Mechanic {to look not adjust}
Nero & Nero Vision
Power DVD 4
As you can see I have very little software running. The system is normally left on but when I want to reboot, I want to reboot. Even when I install a program and it says press to reboot, it sticks on the same screen. I have to manually reboot. Then it will work great.
I have tried to list all the info you might need so that a good suggestion can be made. I Am Open To All Suggestions. I am posting from work, so if any other info is needed, It might have to wait until I get home.
Could the PSU be too small and causing this? I really am lost and hate admitting this.
Rick
