Hi
My computer is having trouble displaying java applets. The latest version of java is installed on my computer.
See the attached pic to see what happens. The java doesn't load and I'm left with an icon in the top left corner and a blank space.
I'm running WinXP PIII 650Mhz 256MB ram. |

When you say you have the latest version of java installed, are you talking the sdk, or virtual machine? |

I'm not sure - what's the difference between the two? I went to java's website ( www.java.com) and it said that I had java installed. |

Xi has the correct version. sdk is software development kit. it has the set of java development tools for compiling and running java applets and applications. tools are API classes, java Compiler and java virtual machine (JVM). compiler translates java source code into bytecodes which the JVM parse or runs to execute programs. JVM allows java codes to run on any machine (mac, pc etc) on which it is installed.
are you able to run your applet using appletviewer ? you seem to be using the windows browser. the tutorial link at sunjava site
should help. http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutor...efinition.html |

I'm using Internet Explorer 6. I see the difference between sdk and vm, but that hasn't seemed to help my problem. |

are your environment variables set ? can you run the applet using appletviewer command ? your html code could be the problem, eg. the WIDTH and HEIGHT dimensions may be too small to accommodate the applet. increase these and see what happens. good luck. |

I'm not viewing an applet that I made myself, I'm trying to view java applets from other webpages online - such as yahoo games. |
