I am upgrading a Dell GX260 (Intel 845g chipset on mobo) pc at work and I purchased a 512MB PC2100 stick for it which is what the crucial site recommended. After installing it I checked the memory and the original 256mb chip says Infineon PC2300. I didn't know they made a PC2300 (Crucial doesn't offer that). So my question is, if I upgrade some more of these same computers should I just get a 512mb PC2700 for it? Will the motherboard accept this even if it is not rated to? It obviously works with PC2300.
