Computer won't start

Ok, here's the scenario...

I'm booting up into Knoppix 3.2 when all of a sudden the power just shuts off. I try flipping the switches, new power cord, etc. but no power! This must be the power supply, correct?

Disconnect the P/S from the board and hard drives/cd-roms and see if it powers its own fan. That'll let you know if it's the P/S. Quickest way I can think of, anyway.

ok weird..i unplugged all my ide devices and plugged them back in and now it works fine. any ideas as to why it was doing that?

also, before i had done that, when i would press the power button i could slightly see the fans on the chipset and heatsink move (so it was getting something.

weird stuff. what was doing that?
