| Problem Opening Window IE 6 - it hangs
Hi,
does anyone knows how to solve the following problem:
When I click on a link in Internet Explorer 6, it suddenly hangs, normally a second window should appear, bit it doesn't.
Even when I try it via the menu: File\New\Window it gives a hang.
My OS is Win XP.
It used to work, but now it doesn't. Maybe a wrong setting? Please help me out, as I cannot perform some tasks anymore via the internet.
Thanks,
Jupiler. |

try running adaware or something similar to get rid of ad/spyware.
Try clearing up resources to see if you are out of memory. |

Try right clicking on the link as select Open in New Window.

Hi guys,
thanks for the input,
the solution i have added earlier did not work (- please read it, it is very important not to try that solution, it deleted needed windows-files, fortunately WINXP has a very good backup tool-) ,
anyway, i will try the comment of Zidane182, maybe the problem is related to ad/spyware, i will search for this tool "adaware" and let you know guys.
BTW: rightclicking gives the same result, opening a new window doesn't work, the only thing that works is launching another IE window by clicking the icon on the desktop.

| http://www.lavasoft.de/ it is indeed a great tool
A lot of times crashes or 'odd' behavior of IE is caused by spyware.
I'd also highly suggest using an alternative browser such as Mozilla or my personal preference Opera. As they are not NEARLY as prone to automatically installing (for your benefit mind you!) spyware/adware. The only thing you'll get with them are the typical cookies, and they still may not give nearly as much power as IE gives them.
You still have to worry about exe's popping up though, but they give you a much better warning than IE does.

Did you install Windows Update 811493: Security Update (Windows XP)? There is something wrong with it that causes your computer to hang. |

Hi guys, my problem is solved now !!
MANY THANKS go to "vass0922", he was absolutely correct, I have been to the site www.lavasoft.de where you can download the <free> tool: adaware.exe.
When installed, it scans for spy- and adware, i have removed the found files and after that action everything works again properly,
I am so happy that i do not have to re-install my OS again, brilliant work vass0922, i would never found the cause by myself.
Regarding Opera, it is excellent, I have already get rid of the IE-substitute browser "Netscape", it is crapp, where by the way the back and forward paging didn't work at all.
Thanks for the input !
And Zidane182, thanks man, you were right too !

Concerning: Did you install Windows Update 811493: Security Update (Windows XP)?
I will check it out, if so, then microsoft adds spy or adware, which forces me not to use IE anymore. |
