any tricks to get my laptop to boot?

Nec Versa 2405CD
Pentium 100
16 MB RAM
had been running 98SE (slow but usable)

I had 1 gig HD. Purchased a used 12 gig drive off of ebay. Installed in caddy and attempted to boot from boot disk (floppy), but it would not boot. Popped in Win 98SE CD and it asks boot from Harddrive or CD-ROM tried both, neither works.

Any tricks to try before chalking this up to a learning experience and putting my 1 gig back in?

With the old drive will it boot from the floppy or will it boot from the cd?

Yes with the old drive it would boot from A:, D: and, of course, C:.
Now it just goes to a setup type screen that lists the harware eg. CPU, RAM, HARD DISK 0, etc. This screen lists the Hard drive as 8455 Mb rather than 12.07 gigs. Then i just get a blinking cursor that will not move. Can't even ALT+Ctrl+del to reboot. The HD light is on steady as well.
