If you remove the partition without using a special utility like Partition Magic, you will probably lose both operating systems.

I'm not clear on what you are trying to do...

"Format/c:" <-- don't do that (not that it would work with that syntax anyway)

Allot depends on how you set you dual boot up to be honest. If you're using XP's boot loader then:

Boot into XP - right click on My Computer - select properties - select advanced. You should see button called Startup properties or something similiar. Once you see the options to boot different operating systems in there just uncheck the box that lets you choose. From now on you'll boot into XP.

Note that you'll still have the partition for 98 there - but you can format it (using disk management) and use it as a D: drive to make use of the space.

Thanks, guys.

All I need to do is eliminate the WIN '98 partition, since it isn't used at all. And I realize the syntax posted "Format/c:" wouldn't work. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but some of the posts on here absolutely amaze me.

I am several miles from the computer I will be working on (about 150), and want to have my ducks in a row when I get there to do this. I have a few ideas that have worked on systems not running XP, and it was easy. But XP has it's own tweakage that has me concerned.
Anyone with this specific experience would be most helpful.

Thanks again,

Al

Eliminate the partition? Do you mean make it part ot the partition that XP resides on so there's one less partition on the disk? I don't think you can do that without third party tools.

Now if you want to remove Windows 98 and use the disk space it was consuming as storage on that partition then my original answer stated above still stands.

Let me know if I'm not being clear enough.

Regards,
ST
