    Installing WD40GB into Dell 2350

    Here's what I've got:

    Dell Dimension 2350
    Windows XP
    P4 2.0
    256 DDR SDRAM

I've added my 40GB WD HD from my former desktop to my new 2350. Luckily, the $50 mounting bracket is the same!

    I had:

Compaq Presario 5BW120, the 40GB HD was my slave drive on that as well. Here's my problem:

I can open some files on the 40GB drive, but not others. I don't want to download Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools if it'll erase anything on the drive, I need all the files!

Will Data Lifeguard Tools fix the problem? If so, should I dl them to my C: driver, or the 40 GB slave drive?

Any help is appreciated, I'm glad I found this website!

Actually, I'm using some audio editing software. I can open up the .wav files, but not the session files. The session files are made up different "regions" from .wav files, until the song is completed and pasted to a new .wav file.

So this sucks for all my uncompleted work that I'd like to work on, I can't open up the edit file.

    Need to know anything else?

When I open the .wav file in the editing software, it works. I can open up (I've tried) almost every other file on the drive.

When I try to open the session file, it says: "Cannot read from drive D:"

Which it can!! I'm confused, someone be my hero.
