| Laptop gets hot underneath
I have a Compaq Presario 1700 and underneath after a while it gets hot. Is there something wrong? If so how can it be fixed?
Thanks |

That's normal. I've used several brand laptops, HP seem to get the hottest.
It's just becuase they're thin and don't dissipate heat very well.
I usually use mine w/ a book on my lap. |

HP and Compaq don't have as well thought out cooling system as say Dells do. I have an HP and I leave it on 24/7 crunching for FaD and it gets very hot sometimes!!
But, that's "normal"(if you can call it that), maybe "common" is a better term.

I have the same model Compaq laptop that has the same heat issue. I leave it right in front of my AC vent with the bottom facing the vent (after I've shut it down) and it's still pretty hot after an hour of that... I'm always afraid to put it in my carry bag until it's cooled down.
I don't know too much about laptops but I'm assuming it's a good idea to let them cool down before putting them into fairly well sealed carry bags correct?

my dell is like that
if you have some money to burn get this
of course you could get some program that steps down computers when there idle but that really wont make a big difference with the bottom getting hot |

Also, I've noticed that the plate where the RAM is behind, also gets very hot to the touch. On my HP they put the RAM right below the hard drive, not the best place for it IMO.

That's why they don't call them laptops anymore!
Now, they're called Notebooks!
With the newer, faster processors, esp. the non-mobile processors that some companies are putting in their notebooks, there is a real problem with heat!
You can pick up a "Cooler Pad" or other accessories designed to aid in the cooling.

I bought a cheap wire "cooling rack" like you might put cookies on. Place the notebook on it and you at least allow air to circulate underneath.... |
