Win98 windows all blank & greyed out

Has anyone seen this before? I open My Computer or any folder at all, and the window pops up totally greyed out. No icons, just greyness. I right click in the grey and it gives me one option. "Close" When I click that option, it shows me the folder's contents.

Now, I know that icons get corrupted sometimes and there's a cache file that can be cleared, but what about this? Obviously something is corrupted.

Any ideas?

I don't think so. I don't know what that is. This problem is on my brother's computer, so I'm not sure what he's got loaded. Maybe I'll install TweakUI and see if I find anything that fixes it.

Maybe the Web View stuff is messed up. What happens if you untick 'as Web Page' in the View menu?

I went to turn that off, but found it wasn't on in the first place. There's nothing but games installed, really. *thinking* Perhaps if I update Internet Explorer it will fix it, since explorer.exe is updated that way.

I'll tell my brother to try that.
