| USB optical-cordless mouse = slower computer?
I have the following problem, when I attach my Logitech cordless & optical USB mouse to the computer I notice a slow down in performance, most noticable while surfing.
I have a Dell, 1.7 GHz 512MB computer running Win XP Home Edition.
Some friends mentioned they have the same problem with other systems and specifications.
What could be the problem ?
Thanks. |

Badly written, performance consuming driver I'd say. Uninstall the Logitech software, let the default mouse driver handle it, and see whether that makes it any better. |

I agree, drivers-only installs are the best for things like mice and keyboards. Unless you really want to have access to all the stuff they threw in with your mouse to make it more expensive, don't install it. Just plug it in, and then point Windows to the driver folder appropriate to your OS on the included CD. Once that's done, it would be best to get the latest version off the manufacturers website, but you already knew that. |

I never bother installing the extra stuff that comes with keyboards and mice. 9 times out of 10 the builtin driver has at least some of the extra functionality available.

I just got a Logitech keyboard on sale for $20 last week. It's an integrated media keyboard. But you need their driver to access the special keys. So you load in it. Now, if that software is up it takes about 3-5min for computer to shutdown instead of say 5-20 seconds; unless I shutdown that program first-- then the computer shutdown normally.
But I think it is so cool to start and play: mp3s, CDs and DVDs from my keyboard.

LOL That's nutz! I'd message Logitech and see what's up, cuz that would get annoying. |

Mmm.. I may just do that. Right now, I just walk away and sit down in front of the TV. |

I had a similar problem with a USB mouse on a system with a VIA chipset. Mine was more mouse "lag". They had a "USB Filter Driver" that fixed it.
Is there a reason you can't just go PS/2 with an adapter?
Myself I prefer to keep my USB open and plug my MX500 into PS/2.
