Black screen hang before windows loads

Hey heres my problem... i just recently built a new computer. When i booted the first time after installing windows the BIOS didnot recognize my HD until i went into the BIOS and set it. Then i saved changes and rebooted and it detected it... then went on to a black screen for about 45 seconds then after that windows XP loaded. Now i figured out that the detection problem was because of my jumper. it was like this :::| so i changed it to this... ::_: now i still get the black screen hang before windows XP loads for about 20-30 seconds. anyone know why?

try this..I'm a support tech with H.P and this has helped...do an msconfig.. keep only your antivirus,kbd,rundll32,and ps2 in your startup tab...you may not have all these, but these are the needed ones if they are on your system...if you are on A.O.l keep the aol tray icon as it is a pain in the ass to put back...also go into your control pannel....and disable error reporting..that loads up at that time.../also go to the system icon, then startup and recovery, charge the two timer settings for displaying o/s and recovery options to 5 seconds../ hope this helps, if you have any questions e-mail me../
