Grey Laptop Screen

Hi Guys,

I have a problem with my laptop. When I switch it on the screen goes to grey. It boots up ok but I dont see either the boot info or windows. Just stays grey. I plugged the laptop into my TV and I get a picture on the TV but still nothing on the LCD. If you have any suggestion, I would really appreciate them. Its an advent 7006, Win XP and its only a year old.

have you tried the Fn key?

should be option to hold down Fn and one of your F keys to toggle between onboard screen and offboard.

ive got a Toshiba and its Fn and F5

I just had something like that happen to my laptop screen. Turns out it was the LCD. I hooked it up to an external monitor to make sure the video adapter worked fine and it did, so I sent it back to HP and they replaced the screen and sent it back to me. Is yours still under warranty? If so, call them up and tell them what the problem is.

David,

Not under warrenty anymore. Run out about a month ago (typical). I got some advice from some people saying that it maybe the ribbon cabel is lose from opening and closing all the time. Also some repair shop suggested it might be a software problem (not sure how this could be). Another suggested inverter problem. Just not sure anymore so thought I would try you lot. Thanks.
