arctic silver, its cooling properties are much better than the strip that comes on the heatsink. It's know to cool about 2-4 degrees better. I've used it and highly recommend it over the regular strip that comes on all heatsinks.
However given you are not overclocking and you're processor is ahem...low speed you might as well go with the strip...you're not going to need the extra cooling power of arctic so save your money.

Yes thanks Fanzoo. I've heard that Athlons (not XP) run a lot hotter, so I was just wondering. I do already have a tube of AS3, but I was just wondering if it's worth it to clean that strip off and use the AS3. The computer is going to my parents for general use - internet, maybe some bookkeeping... This will be their first computer .
On another note - maybe I should keep the Volcano 7 and get them a cheap HSF? Does anyone know a good/reliable/inexpensive HSF for an Athlon 1.3? Thanks. |

This one is $9 $14 w/ shippingand will be overkill as is...keep the Volcano 7 for something else. http://www.bestbyte.net/Product.cfm?...yID=6&Keyword=
Best byte has several other good options as well but this is what I use and am happy with.
I wouldnt waste the AS3 on it either.

| Lol, I just bought the Volcano 7 from them, along with a few case fans. I should have added this fan, darn. But I guess $6.34 isn't too bad. |

They have a good selection of HSF's and decent pricing.
The Thermalright pricing is so far the best i've found. They have the SK-6+ for $9.99 and the SK-7 for $19.99. These are both nice sinks for the price.

The Volcano 7+ performs alot better than the original and I would definitely use the AS3 over the thermal pad. I have a 1700 running at 28 degress Celcius with 7+ and AS3. But I doubt you would have stability issues with just the thermal pad, I didnt.

| Not really worth it for a low use, web machine. That volcano 7 will be overkill as is! Save it for when it matters I say,,,plus you dont want to void warranty unless you have to. |
