Hello everybody.
Im having probs with my MoBo i think it must be. i got an Asrock K7VT2 MoBo and a XP1800 thourogbreed. and with that i atm got 1 piece of 256mb PC133 SDRAM on.
The problem i got is the fact that it wont go all the way into windows if i put my other memory in (256mb PC133 SDRAM), the comp freezes when it reaches the welcome to win xp screen. Is there anybody that can help me with this prob...?
I have tryed the same setup but with win 98 and that works. And i have tryed Memtest and according to that there is no problems.
BTW i am using a really old HD but that shouldnt make a difference, should it?
Many thanx in advance |

Try changing your RAM speed (in your BIOS). May be set at 100; try 133. Or, try going from 133 to 100. If "AUTO" is available, try that first. If this don't work, try changing the latency timer to 2, then 3, etc. And as far as your "old" hard drive, what is it? Though this shouldn't matter...
Hope this helps... |

i have just tested that but it seems that it does not work either.
The only prob i got is that it wont let me use bort memorys at the same time, only one at a time when i use Win XP when i tested 98 it worked just fine.
The HD which i boot from is an old IBM 3Gb. I dont know which year its from but it was in 200mhz computer before....so its really old. |

Are both RAM chips the same brand? I had a similar issue with a system that would only detect one chip at a time, but would boot up. Turned out that one was actually PC100 and the other PC133, and one was CL2 and the other CL3 (or something like that). I put matched RAM in it and away we went!!!
Hope this helps... Come on, guys!!! Anyone else reading this have any pointers??? |

| This brings to mind another issue a friend of mine had. He had a 3.2 GB that size was the barrier, not the RAM. Don't know his exact configuration... |

Oh..thanx, but both memories r PC133 and both r CL2 originals. So now i dont know...could it possibly be that the HD cant handle the fact that it is 512Mb? If so i guess all i have to do is use my other HD to boot from.
I have heard from all kinda places that it cant be like that, so...now all i got is problems..lol
Thanx for all the help so far and in the future..=) |

ook so with one stick in it boots to xp just fine right? does it detect 512mb in the bios wnen you have both in? did it detect them both when you used win 98?
your hdd doesn't limit your ram amount and if you can boot to xp just fine with one stick in then it rules out a problem there. I don't have much experience with xp, but I'm assuming your on a fresh install? if not you need to be because I know trying to use an old install of xp on a new computer ie just switchin the drive over doesn't work to well | |

It detects 512Mb when i put both in, both now when i use XP and before when i had 98. The problem emerges when i come to the screen where it says : Welcome to Windows XP or something like that. Then the comp freezes if i use both but not if i use 1. Could it be the fact the the memorys r different brands? both of them r PC133 256Mb doublesided memorys, and both r originals, but 1 is Kingston and the other is Silcom, could it be that they r not fully compatable?
TY for all the help |

Just a thought........could maybe be the slots the memory is in? Try different arrangements (slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 3)..............don't know if that would help, but seems like some boards are fussy on the configuration of the ram.............
