| Internet + Sound = Crash?!?!?
Like the subject says, whenever I'm on the Internet and sound from whatever plays, it eventually crashes. I have no idea what is going on here.
AMD 2100+
Soyo KT333 Dragon Platnium using onboard sound (CMedia 8738)
Win XP
Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like an IRQ conflict with your sound card and possibly your network card. Do you have built-in sound or an add-on card? If an add-on card, try going into your BIOS settings and manually setting the PCI slot your sound card is in to IRQ 5 (reserved for legacy device).

It is an onboard sound chip and it's already on IRQ 5, the modem (yes, I'm on dial up) is on IRQ 11.
I've tried new drivers and a bios flash with no results. This is really getting frustrating.

Your BIOS should allow you to choose between 2 or 3 IRQs for the sound device.

Hmm, I'm not seeing that option in there. There is something about assigning IRQs to PCI slots (but it doesn;t let me pick which PCI slot). |

I disabled the sound in the BIOS and no lockups. I'm going to try a different modem next. I would try a different soundcard but i don't have any PCI ones. |

The problem has moved on to beyond locking up when sound is played while I'm on the Internet. It now eventually freezes whenever sound is played.
I have picked up a new sound card (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, which I highly recommend BTW) and the problems seem to have stopped. |
