Urgent!! Help Needed with SB PCI512

I'm visiting relatives right now, and their computer didn't produce sound until I plugged it into the right slot. Fair enough, seems logical, but here's what happens now: I play a sound, and it repeats forever. I play another sound, and it adds it's sound to the ELA (Endless Loop of Annoyance). Their card is a Sound Blaster PCI512, with throwaway (in my opinion) amplified stereo speakers. I can mute the sound, and change the volume/bass/treble etc, but the loop is just like the Energizer Bunny: It keeps going, and going, and going...

Have you tried to update the drivers for that card?

Get the latest drivers for your card. Especially if it's Win XP...

If you can't find the drivers on the Creative web site, try going to http://www.driverguide.com

    Usename: drivers
    Password: all

It's Win98se, thankfully. I'll try the drivers next. They have 56k, so they better not be huge files!

Good luck on updating the drivers. I replaced that card last year, because Creative hadn't offered an update in almost 2 years. I was lucky, and never experienced any troubles like you've related. My son put it in his computer, and it works just fine. We're both still using Win98SE. Good luck!

yeah, definitely check for onboard sound.

to me it just sounds like the drivers are having issues. a reinstall of them should fix the problem. if not i would go and check for irq conflicts (that sounds like it was the original problem).
