ok last night i decided to reformat my hdd i have the original drive from this machine.......i kept it as a back up....i just use the western digital disk to copy everything off of this drive to the larger hard drive. ive done this quite a few times.....last night when i did it i just got an error message the system wouldnt boot.....i tried the drive in another rig but still nothing the older smaller drive still works boots with no problems is the WD drive bad?? would a new hard drive solve my problems?
Make the WD drive a slave. Install it in your pc. Boot from the old drive and see if you can browse the WD drive. If you can run scandisk or chkdsk (depending on the operation system) on the WD drive to see if there are any problems.
all ready been there..nothing appears to be abnormal...all scans come back ok. the drive appears ok. the thing i dont understand ive done this quite a few times and now it decides it doesnt want to work.
What OS is it? One of the boot files is probably corrupt. What message do you get when you try to boot it. You may be able to copy the boot files from the old drive to this one.
the old disk boots the machine *no problem* . so, i coppied that entire disk onto the new one and nothing works it says invalid system disk. like i said ive done this before and its worked every time till now.
