| asus A7N8x system crashing
Hi
My system has recently started crashing for no apparent reason since I haven't been messing with it.
What happens is that I hear about 4 beeps coming from the system unit and then it usually crashes pretty soon after that.
I had it overclocked at a FSB of 154 so when the problems started happening I took it down to default FSB of 133mhz but it still crashed.
I'm not overclocking the graphics card, and the Asus probe utility has all the temperatures at healthy levels. So I totally have no clue why its crashing.
Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks!
My system:
Athlon XP 2100+
Asus A7N8X Non Deluxe
512 MB PC2700
Leadtek GF4Ti4200 8X agp
Lots of fans |

What are the temperatures exactly? Did you increase the Vcore when you were overclocking it?

I was running into similar problems, haye you tried to reset the BIOS via the CMOS jumper? Maybe some of your old settings are still enabled. |

| FSB must match DDR clock...
My config:
A7n8x
XP2000+ (Temp around 38-40ºC)
Kingston 256mbDDR 2700
Geforce2 64mb
This board only runs stable with me when the FSB and DDR are matched (133 - 133), whenever I raise the DDR to its 166 default the system gets unstable.
DDR at Bios - 133/4/2/2/2 (The "Performance" setup)
Sounds like that known 333/400 DDR issue, or maybe it´s just me, but I´m starting to get really pissed with this board...
If you manage to run the DDR at 166 please let me know your BIOS settings for it. |

Try increasing the core and ram voltages. |

I get the 5 quick codes which means CPU failure or bad motherboard. I find it quite hard to believe that its acting up already after only 5 months of use.
I will reset the bios (setting default speeds) and see if this happens again. Do you recommending using the jumper to reset it or using the bios option??
The voltage readings are:
12.48v
4.945v
3.264v
My VCORE is currently at 1.68 and with my overclock where FSB is at 144MHZ my temperatures are: 46C CPU, and 39C Motherboard.
I have a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ running at full speed and 4 case fans.
Thanks for the help!

Just to be sure, use the reset jumper.
By the way, I found an incompatibility with my HyperX2700, got one of 3000 and it runs smoothly as cake (166mhz and 185mhz), my dealer told me he was aware of this issue and recommended the 3000. So, although nor Kingston or Asus made any comments, I´d recommend the exchange (it´s almost the same price anyway).
Don´t know if other brands have this kind of problem...
Regards. |
