    HELP. computer wont boot

    Hey guys,

I built a computer a few months ago for a co worker and now he cant get it to boot up. I have his computer at my house now and trying to figure this out.
When i turn on the computer it goes to a dark screen with white letters that says>>> WINDOWS DID NOT START SUCCESFULLY. RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGES MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS. (I DOUBT THAT MY CO WORKER TRIED ANY KIND OF CHANGES) and at the bottom it says >>> safe mode/go back to last good configuration/start windows normally/etc.
I tried all of those but when i do it takes me to a bright blue screen (color of the blue screen of death) and it says something but i cant read it cuz within seconds it restarts and does is all over again.
I really dont want to format and re-install windows xp if i dont have do. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I don't know about XP, but 2K CD offers a choice to repair the installation. Kinda figure XP CD has this option too.

    Hi Bill,

Ok, i might have to try that if i dont have any other options or ideas from anyone else.
So if im able to do a repair, everything that is stored on his hard drive will still be there?
    Thanks again

I just did a fresh re-install of 2K and lost nothing data or program wise. While I didn't run any of the programs cuz I wanted to get rid of everything, I was surprised they were still there. I installed with my name rather than Administrator and even my old Admin settings and My Doc's were still there.

I'm sure an XP expert will come along any moment.
