Alright... Very confuzzled about a RAM issue

I have a XP2100+ on a Albatron KX400-8XV Pro. The Mobo can run DDR 400 ram (PC3200) which I have.

When the system boots up it says the ram is running at 266 which I understand due to the DDR:CPU ratio.

My question is... Can I bump the ram speed up to DDR400 in the bios since it doesn't change the CPU FSB?

I am totally lost on this one. Dunno why I am so confused.

If you are running DDR400 then you should be able to bump it to DDR400 speeds I have the same mobo and I'll check here in a second to see what the settings are.

edit there should be a multiplier setting for the ram just set it to acheive 400

Running Ram out of sync w/ the fsb delivers a memory performance decrease, in most instances.

My memory scores went up in Sandra after I went to the 400 setting.

Supposedly having two different speeds for the FSB and RAM will force you to have to buffer it quite often, meaning a decrease in performance...however the only test I was able to make between the two was using SETI@Home...my times increased several minutes when I ran my RAM closer to 200mhz and left the CPU at 166mhz.
