| Radeon Graphics and Asus motherboard
Recently purchased a Radeon 9700 Pro graphics card. Installed it on my Asus P4PE motherboard with Windows XP Pro operating system. Upon trying to power up my motherboard a red light activated saying I was trying to install a 3.3v graphics card in a 1.5v AGP slot. What am I doing wrong. Thanks Bob |

It's basically telling you that your board, only puts out 1.5V to the AGP slot.
Your card is a 3.3V card and will not work w/ this board. Quote:
AGP Warning LED
ASUS has designed into this motherboard an AGP Warning LED. The AGP Warning LED automatically stops you from turning on your system with incompatible voltage AGP (3.3V) cards, and protects from permanently damaging your motherboard.

I have seen systems on internet having asus P4PE and Radeon 9700 Pro together. Yes I did plug the power to the card, Radeon's are also suppose to be backward compatible with lower voltages. thanks |

are you sure that power lead is working? try swapping it with the floppy lead. |

Still having issues?
Is the card modified or a second hand one? The reason I ask is that my Radeon 9700pro is reported in my BIOS as running at 1.5v! you might also try a BIOS flash, in case of corruption\incompatability. |

I just purchased the card new online. It is a OEM version. I plug it in move the latch to secure it, plug in the power source and the little agp light comes on. I have 14 days to return it, so I am now wondering if these two are compatible I'll keep it and work out the problems, if not I'll return for a refund. Does anyone know if they have ever seen this combo work? I have never run into any problem like this before. Thanks for all your help....... |

was there something wrong with your previous setup at all that made you order a new graffix card?
Sorry 'bout the Q's, just trying to glean as much info as possible! |

No the setup was good, everything was working fine, just wanted to go to a 128meg card, had a G-force card and tried to go to the bigger and so called better card. I put the old card back in and everything is working fine. Do I need to install the catalyst software before installing the card to recognize the voltage difference? Being an OEM card I received no manual, so I'm thinking I might be missing something here. System is running fine with old card though... I'm going to try and contact Asus in the morning (Ha, Ha) to see what they say, but I appreciate all your help. Thanks |

I had a lot of issues when I switched from a gforce 3 to my 9700pro. The problem could be driver related, did you remove the GF driver and switch to the standard windows driver before installation? If not; that could be a reason for your current problems, also, as gforce drivers are so notoriously difficult to remove, you might consider backing up your important data and formatting your primary drive, it was the only way I could eventually cure my problems which like you would go away as soon as the GF was re-installed, I too thought the ATI card was faulty.
BTW: the catalyst driver won't install before the card is in situe. |
