| All I did was run Disk Doctor and Speed Disk... now Windows wont start
I turn the computer on, the "Starting Windows 98" message is shown, then I get a BSOD. Invalid VxD dynamic link call from NDIS(03) + 00000022 to device "004B" service 800B. Your Windows configuration is invalid, run the Windows setup program again to correct the problem.
After continuing from that screen, Windows tries to start, but before it gets anywhere another BSOD comes... A fatal exception OE has occured at 0028:00020013. The current application will be terminated.
I pressed Y to continue, and it went back to the screen with the Windows version on and goes no further. I've had the problem before, after running the two programs, and fixed it by doing a clean install of Windows. I would most likely do that again, but I've already done two clean installs in the last two days. Is there a way to fix it without having to go through it again? |

Here is what M$ has to say about the NDIS vxd.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NDIS 3 Manager. Device Load for Microsoft NetBEUI, IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol for Windows (NWLINK), Microsoft TCP/IP Transports
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks like you lost most of your tcp/ip protocols. You might be able to replace them in dos. But some one better in dos had better tell you how. I'm not that good in dos.
Can you get into safe mode? Hit F8 when you are trying to start the computer. Then try a scandisk on it. If that doesn't do it. Then its time for some dos work. Unless you have a copy of your windows disk on your hard drive. If you do then you could run system file checker. It sould find the problem. But you won't have a cd-rom in safe mode. |

Go into safe mode (F8 at the Windows could screen). Then have your Windows cd handy (or know where the cab files are). Go to the control panel and open Add/Remove programs. Click on Windows setup tab. Take the checkmark out of communications, then reboot your machine into safe mode. Go back, put checkmark back into communications (let it do its copying files thing), and then reboot your machine again, this time it should go into normal mode.
This is all dependent on safe mode working. If it does not, then I guess you need to run windows setup again. |

HAHAHAHAH! Another Norton SpeedCrash victim.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Anyone who relies on a bloated piece of software to clean up their system of other bloated pieces of software...
I hope you didn't pay too much for it.
Really, I'm sorry...

I've also been a victim of Norton Speed disk some time ago. Ever since, I've been using Diskeeper. I don;t know about the recent versions of Norton Speed Disk, but I tend to stay away from it. Diskeeper has been very reliable for me on all MS OS's... |

Whenever I run those programs now I shut off all programs by ctrl-alt-del til only explorer and systray are left.
Rarely have problems with this method.
Do you have Rescue Disks? They should be able to help you recover from the crash.
If not I'd try SPEEDO and wyvrn's suggestions before re-installing Windows. I hate doing that enough to try just about anything.
Good Luck. |
